|Jack & Barb took off exactly at 9am Thursday morning but I managed to get up by 8:30am to see them off. I have been going to bed way too late (well early actually, sometime between 1 and 2 am) and getting up way too late as a result. Their time here certainly flew by fast and we will miss them. But they have appointments and a large garden to attend to so we understand why they had to take off so soon. They weren't gone very long before we received a call from them that a large herd of the resident Custer State Park bison were at the Peter Norbeck Visitor Center and across the street near the lodge. A herd of 1,500 bison roams freely throughout the park and even though you would think it would be easy to spot them, sometimes you have to hunt for them.
We hadn't seen any of the herd on our last visit in the park, so we jumped in the truck and went to watch them for a bit. The herd is in good shape this year. I believe we saw more bison of different ages than in years past. I guess they staggered the births a bit more this season. There were 4 or 5 VERY large bulls today. We especially enjoyed watching one of them bellowing his way across the meadow until he reached his 'girl' and then he proceeded to complain and herd her back in the direction he just came. He bullied her and bullied her and she just took it! She did have a young one so maybe she needed to take all the flack for his protection? LOL
We hung out for about an hour before heading back home. We made a quick stop at the nursery so I could purchase a couple of flowering hanging baskets. They are very pretty, purple and lavender in color. I dropped Larry off at the campground and went downtown to see Lou at the t-shirt shop. Time to replace a couple of our faded worn out ones. After a quick dinner we went downtown for the Thursday night entertainment. It was a beautiful evening and we enjoyed listening and visiting with a few of the locals. What a friendly bunch they are! Afterward we came home and enjoyed a rootbeer float before bidding Dick & Lou goodnight. Another full, nice day here in the hills.
Tomorrow we have an all day shopping trip to Rapid City on the books. I accidently put 2 DVD's in my Panasonic player/recorder and even though Larry took it apart and removed them, it no longer opens & closes properly. I am so bummed. Such a stupid, costly error. I doubt I'll find one to purchase in town but I want to look. Also, we want a small bookcase for the living room. And a new fishing pole and net. Larry's is falling apart & it is just time to replace it. We are also picking up two new A/C covers to replace the one's destroyed by last Sunday's hail storm. Hope it doesn't rain!
