The Painted Desert in the distance

After leaving the Grand Canyon via the East Exit, we went to the Wupatki National Monument. This was the largest Pueblo in the area, having about 100 rooms. It was built in the 1100's shortly after the nearby Sunset Crater Volcano erupted. The descendents of these people include the Hopi, Zuni and Navajo people.
