June 22 - Wednesday morning Dan and Dick went back to the Russian River Ferry area while Pat and Donna worked on making fabric bead necklaces for DOAI. They both enjoy crafts very much and Donna was happy to have someone to share the efforts while Pat was pleased to learn a new craft.
Dick caught his first Red Salmon, in fact he caught two and they were the first two he had on the line and both were legally hooked in the mouth! He did hook one more but it got off. Dan did not land any. The photo shows how happy Dick was! Dick filleted them at the nice cleaning station provided by the ferry crossing and Pat and Donna had them into vacuum bags and into the freezer within half an hour. That night Donna and Dan provided salmon for a nice dinner we shared and she prepared some of the salmon with a brown sugar coating and the balance with dill. DELICIOUS! (and we got to keep several pieces left over!)
Thursday Dan and Dick decided to go fishing at Soldotna to the place where Dan and Donna had caught many red salmon last year at a city park area across from the Soldotna airport while Donna showed Pat some local craft stores. Unfortunately the salmon run was not at that part of the river so again no fish but as Dick says, any day fishing in Alaska beats most any other place you could be. We ended our visit with Dan and Donna by going out for a good dinner at one of the local restaurants in Cooper Landing.
