As far up as we were planning to go.
11 Jul 2010
We have arrived at Chris and Kaye's - much earlier than planned but we think this will work out better.
Byron Bay was very wet most of the time. We have realised that it is a great place to go for the day, but not to stay - unless you are young.......! The german surfies were extremely noisy until 3am!
On Friday we explored Byron - it has grown heaps since we were last there. Went to the lighthouse at dusk and even though it was cloudy the sunset was beautiful. We have great photos - we think! Will know more when they are uploaded! We went to Bangalow on Friday afternoon - such a lovely village. Very pretty with it's old buildings. It had some interesting shops that are different to what we usually find.
On Saturday we went to Lismore to the caravan, camping, 4WD and marine expo. Wow! What a huge range of caravans you can get over here. We saw a couple that we really liked and one guy thought he had us hooked.......any way we are still thinking. Because of the rain the show grounds were so muddy - a lot like Agfest - and apparently last year the mud went over the ankles - so this year was quite good! You can imagine what the caravans looked like inside with thousands of sloshy muddy shoes and boots going in them!!! On the way back to Bryron we drove through Bexhill and Clunes which are lovely villages. We stopped at a little shop in Clunes and Barry found a Clarice Cliff platter, which we now have :)
Yesterday we came to Cleveland which is about an hour from Brisbane. We stopped at Coolangatta and checked out the esplanade craft market. A few different things there. Then we found the retro shop - very interesting, but the icing on the cake was the biggest second hand/antique shop we have ever seen! When we leave here next Monday we are going to stay at Tweed Heads and go back as we couldn't take it all in. Interesting to see that our prices were about the same, but some things we have are more expensive here. We drove through Surfers rather than on the highway, just to have a look - a little daunting with a caravan on the back! We made it to Cleveland just after 3. Last night we went to Hogs Breath at Victoria Point for dinner. Chris and Kaye are working today so the washing is washing and then we will head out. We need to be back by 3.30 to bring the washing in as it gets damp then and cannot leave out all night because of the bat poo!!!!
The sun is shining and today will be our third day without coats and jumpers and second day with thongs on - yaaay :)
Time to hang out the washing.
Over and out
