Up at 7, shower - it is cold here but they provide lots of blankets (5 + comforter). We are better than yesterday so decide to catch the bus which leaves at 8. The canyon after a climb to 4500m. pass, is narrow - reforestation, mining, and hydro power seem to be main things going on here. At the pass and on way down we pass many llama 'ranches' (see pics). By 10 we are stopped for 2 hours due to road construction. We arr in Huanaco, get a tuktuk to downtown where colectivos/cars leave for Tingo Maria (we missed the last bus which we're told left at 10am, hmmm, it's now only 130). So happened that a car was waiting w/ 2 passengers so we make it 4 and left right away.

Into Tingo and after discussing where to stay we end up at Hotel Palacio less than a block from where we are dropped off and just a few doors away from colectivo Pizana Express which goes to Moyobamba. We had checked out several other bus companies but they all claimed there were no buses to Chachapoyas or anywhere in that direction, hmmm! The fare for each of us to go to Moyobamba is 125s. ($45 US)!!! A bit pricey we think but the trip back the way we came and then up again would be much more in time and money so we go for it. It's a 12 hour drive and leaves at 4 am!!!

We head down the street where the fellow at the hotel says there's a veggie restaurant...indeed there is and for 10s. ($3 US) we get a very filling meal w/ tea, all veggie!
