|With only one day left to explore with Dick & Lou we decided to take the scenic tour of the high country by taking the Success Summit Loop Road through the Schell Creek Range. The road winds north past several campgrounds in the forested heights and takes 33 beautiful miles to find its way back to US 93 north of McGill. Well usually. Unfortunately due to the unusually long & cold winter this year the road was blocked about 1/3 of the way into our trip. By a huge snow 'drift' which completley covered the road for as far as we could see. Guess July is the time to do this loop!
To make matters worse, I created a real problem for our truck. Well, the passenger running board anyway! I was driving with Lou co-piloting and the guys were in the back seat. Larry instructed me to put our truck into 4-wheel drive, so I did. It's supposed to go in 'on the fly'. But sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. I am not experienced enough to 'feel' if it's in and guess what? It wasn't. There is a lot of snow runoff creating running water and lots of mud. The wheels spun and before I could do anything about it the truck slid, right into the side of the hill. Larry got out (in the mud!) and tried to help. But when I applied more gas to dislodge us the wheels were turned into the hillside and yes, the truck moved, digging through the mud and moving it nicely. Until the tree roots were exposed and proceeded to rip a big hunk out of the running board. Yikes! Thank goodness no one thought to take a pic of this mess, lol!
I must say my darling took it very well! He didn't yell, much! Bottom line, does anyone have a spare OE running board, black, passenger side for a 2006-2008 Ford F-250 handy? On the plus side, the views were pretty, we saw 6-8 deer, and heading back down we enjoyed watching 4 elk grazing off to our left. They were very accommodating and stood quite still for awhile watching us watch them!
We arrived back in town and headed straight for the nearest do-it-yourself- car wash. Since I made all the mess, I did all the cleanup while the guys & Lou watched! What;S up with that, lol??? The mud up there is like cement and sure doesn't wash off easily. And it's a mess under the undercarriage too. Sure made the damage stick out too! Ugg....Guess we'll be looking for new parts at the junk yard when we arrive in Vegas later this week. We're going down for just a few days to take care of some business, attend Miss Jasmine's 2nd birthday party and look for the running board. Onyx will be seeing her groomer one last time as well. And we'll get a few prescriptions filled one last time before heading to Custer, SD.
The weather has been beautiful here the past few days. I'm not looking forward to the high 90's-low 100's Vegas has on the weather scope. The mid 70's we've been blessed with lately are wonderful! Hopefully SD will have those temps for awhile also.
Tomorrow is sister Joyce's birthday, so Happy Birthday sis! Hope you have a good one.
Thanks for checking in.....
