Elk Creek Campground
Curecanti National Rec Area
Black Canyon National Park
The trip over to Gunnison, Colorado was again a beautiful day with great views. We certainly can’t complain about the weather we have had. Just about every day has been sunny with a few clouds. The campground we stayed in was part of the Curecanti National Rec Area. We thought it wouldn’t be too far from Black Canyon but it was about 40 miles away, which was okay as we took our time getting to the canyon and traveling on some nice winding but scenic roads. We enjoyed Black Canyon National Park although wouldn’t put it at the top of our list of favorite parks. It was six miles long with about 6 stops to get out and take in the view. Most of the stops had a little walk to see the view so we didn’t feel the need to do any additional hiking in the park. The last stop had a longer hike in but we turned around as I just couldn’t do any more uphills. Will we ever get used to this altitude? The day ended with a nice sunset.
