Great Sand Dunes

Pinyon Flats Campground

We had a busy day seeing some absolutely stunning scenery. First stop was Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. Between the rock features and the snowcapped mountains we just walked around in awe of this place. This is a small area in the city that combines the look of Utah with the spires and rock formations with a view of Pikes Peak, one of the most recognized mountains in the rockies. After walking around for 1-1/2 hours we headed off to the Great Sand Dunes National Park.

Great Sand Dunes is a place unlike any other we have visited. The dunes are incredible and we felt like kids again walking thru the water and then onto the dunes. There are no real trails as you just walk anywhere you want on the dunes. It was windy in some places so we ended up with sand over our entire body. You can turn 360 degrees and see dunes, mountains and trees. Luck was with us today as we got the last site for camping in the campground that was right in the park.
