Great ride in Andes...agriculture big in mtns, much like Colombia but more intensive I think. Potatoes, coffee, peas, beans, greens, lots of grazing. Mtn sides are all divided into plots (see pics). Vistas the whole way to Quito...ride 8 am til 4:30 - buses, colectivos, taxis...easy crossing border.Wikiped Guide To Quito
Ckd in at El Cafecito
dorms, $7 US - Ecuador uses the dollar for its currency. Stay in El Cafecito was ok, unfortunately, they waxed the wood floors and the fumes were BAD! Nice gal, Den from San Francisco, in our 4 bd dorm room. We talked alot about everything...she works w/ youth in high risk, sexually abusive situations. Going back to a 25% cut in her budget, which will eliminate 3 wkers she supervised...leaves next week.
Today a red letter day! Went to Sangay Touring, recom to us by Oliver & Dagimar, and arranged/paid for Galapagos. Took most of am until 2 pm to do it getting cash from banks, etc. Then we went to Teleferico, the cable car to mtn overlooking all of Quito (huge, spreadout city). All The Pictures You'll Ever Want to See of Teleferico
Afterward to old town via Trolley - transit here is great & very impressed w/ Quito overall...would have stayed at least another day if we could.Great Guide to Quito Churches
