8 am we walked to bus sta intending to go to San Agustin but on the way met Roberto & Linda - Swiss couple going to Tierradentro. After some short conversation Bon & I decided best way would be join them to T. It turns out Roberto is an excellent (some may say 'hard nosed') bargainer. The first price for bus - we'd never done this but heard from others it's possible in Colombia - was 25,000 ea ($12.50 US). Roverto eventually got them to take us for 13,000, HALF PRICE! Never knew such would be possible. Now Bon has a field day w/ me(I seldom, if ever, bargain)!

The climb into the mtns out of Popayan is quick and beautiful (see pics), road is paved all well and good for over an hour. Then suddenly we get to the gravel/Forest Service, 1 1/2 lane, rocky and bumpy road. This is a chicken bus so views are great altho we are at the tail end of bus. After more than 3 hrs. Bon is quite jazzed, she says this is the first time on our trip she feels like we're 'really traveling'! We encounter more and more slides, road repair, and bus slows to a crawl. We reach a 'pass' of sorts and it is quite - almost - cold (see pics) where we stop for food. Lunch: rice, beans, fried banana, soup...2,000 ($1 US). Now we're talking! It's a real trip! Lovin' every minute, views fabulous and good company. Arr. in Tierradentro about 2pm, get a room in Residencia Lucerna, an older couple (83 yrs old) run it, very nice and next to museum & entry to T. sites. By 2:30 we are hiking into the sites but due to distances we're only able to see 3 closest (entry closes at 4). Still, very good & super vistas (again see pics).
