Our camping adventures started out in Strafford, NH at the home of Larry & Nancie McKeary. It was a quick overnight stop to drop off Shelby for his own adventure. Nancie took us for a quick walk at Northwood Meadows State Park on Friday evening. Shelby, of course, was in his element so we know he will be in great hands and will not have time to miss us.

We left Saturday morning for Herkimer, NY. Everyone will be happy to know I didn’t shed any tears or have any remorse on leaving Shelby as as you can see by the pictures, he looks pretty happy. It was a 5 hour trip to the Herkimer Diamond Mines. Weather was a little windy but sunny the whole way. We walked over to the diamond mines and looked at the many beautiful rocks in the gift shop. You can mine for diamonds (actually it is calcite) in what looks like a pit with rocks. It was about time for it to close for the day so we opted not to try our hand at mining.

An airstream camper pulled up beside us and we got a laugh out of the saying on the side, “Past Tents” with a picture of a tent and a red line through it.

Sunday, we are off to Mentor, Ohio to visit with John’s relatives for a couple days and hope to get to Cuyahoga National Park.
