A Peruvian parade

I seem to have a fountain shooting out of my head...

Cusco is a wicked little place in Peru. It's basically the base for Machu Piccu, the famed 'Inca Trail' and where most of the treks start from. We weren't staying that long though, as this place was just a stopover for a few days on our way to Venezula to meet our friends KT and Scott who were coming over on holiday to see us. Saying that, we had our fair share of drinking and partying in our short time there, as well as having a good look around the town, which is set at 3600m above sea level. We spent 3 days and 2 nights having fun, and on the Monday we jumped on a plane, yes a plane to Lima, the capital of Peru. We shall be returning to Cusco in about 4 weeks time, to see the Inca Trail, oh, and perhaps a little more partying..........

We landed in Lima at about 5.30pm, and found ourselves with about 12 hours to kill. Not fancying sitting in the 'not so luxurious' surroundings of Lima airport, we stashed our packs and hopped in a cab to a district of Lima called 'Mire Flores'. This is basically the nicer part of Lima (only 78 murders a day).....just kidding. Our cab driver (Carlos) was the nicest cabbie ever, pointing out all the places of interest along the way and advising us how to best spend our 12 hours in Lima, coastal walks, museums, places of historical importance etc. So, with that in mind, we jumped out of the cab, got a pizza, drank some Sangria, and went to an internet cafe. Stuff the sights, we were knackered and really couldn't be arsed walking around looking at crusty old buildings. Besides, we will be returning to Lima on our way back down to Cusco, so we didn't feel to bad. Carlos picked us up from the town centre, and we headed back to the airport, via more places of historical and political interest, including the Presidents house. Very nice.

Our flight took off pretty much bang on time, a first for anything in South America, and we spent about 6 hours in the air until we arrived at our next destination, Caracas, Venezuala..........
