Orange groves

We left the San Diego and headed towards Palms Springs. We thought we would take the scenic route following route 78 rather than the interstate. All our maps and truckers guide indicated that the route was OK. It hadn't failed us in the past.

Everything started fine as we passed orange groves and drove through hills and valleys. As we neared Ramona the route got interesting- Lets say we wouldn't have liked to have met an 18 wheeler coming the other way.

After we passed Romona we passed a sign saying Rv's and trailers over 40 feet not advised. We were able to turn round in a gas station and returned on Highway 68 to Santee where we picked up Interstate 15.

The rest of the journey was uneventful and we arrived in Palm Springs in late afternoon having done 70 miles more than we planned!
