Since leaving Pender Harbor we scooted through Discover Pass and anchored just off the city of Nainamo. We didn’t get to shore, and the floating dinghy dock restaurant doesn’t count, but had visitors aboard from the s/v Ponderosa. They didn’t stay long as they were leaving at 6 a.m. to pass through Dodd Narrows. The next morning we also decided to travel through Dodd Narrows but our timing wasn’t the best so we passed through with lots of turbulence. As we saw a few other sailing vessels ahead doing the same, we felt better about our decision and all was well. With 5kts of current in our favor, we hit 12.1 kts speed over ground…fastest speed this hull has ever moved.
So we timed our visit to Victoria’s inner harbor to coincide with the arrival of our moms. As it turns out, they have known each other for the last 30 years but have never really spent much time together. Plans were laid some months ago when they decided to take an Alaskan cruise together. Lucky for us, this port worked into our plans too. It was a real treat to enjoy the evening with them (they were onshore from 6pm-12pm). After a short taxi ride and stop for a boat cocktail, dropping off the mail my mom delivered to us since April, we enjoyed a nice dinner at The Empress Room. When we finished, they strolled along Government St. for a little shopping just a short distance and it was time to depart. We miss our moms! And I will miss this town. I love the dining, shopping, atmosphere of a big city on the water with nice people.
Gales have been predicted lately but we grabbed a weather window to make a quick run up to Sidney to get our generator ,“Sweet Pea”, serviced.
This week has been incredibly beautiful weather and the mornings and evening are crisp with the feel of fall. Hope you too are enjoying beautiful weather wherever you are.
Did I mention where we are going next???????
