Sunset at Playa Tamarindo

Today was probably the best day of my life (although a tough contender with the first day after the bar exam). John and I went for a sunrise run along the road into town and then back along the beach. After another breakfast of tropical fruit, John and I headed to beach, but this time we stayed near the rocks. I watched all kinds of crabs, snails, shrimp, and sea urchins hang out on the rocks as the tide fell. But the best part was the tide pools that remained among the volcanic rocks. All day long I sat in a personal, bathtub sized pool that the sun heated to about 80 degrees until a new wave would seep in and cool the pool. In the afternoon I explored more tide pools and discovered starfish and sea cucumbers.

We went to the local market to pick up empanadas for a snack, which I supplemented with leftover pasta. I added all kinds of fresh vegetables, prosciutto, and fresh parmesan cheese. I took a fabulous siesta in the afternoon. Then we all headed to town to watch the sunset. We had drinks at one of the beach side restaurants where I tried the local liquor, guaro. Iā€™m a big fan!

We ate dinner at an awesome pizza joint called Las Baulas (meaning "the leather-back turtles"), followed by homemade gelato. I ordered watermelon and cas, a local, tart-flavored fruit. Two days in a row without rain!

Glad I had with me: water shoes

Wish I had with me: underwater camera
