Today we took a drive up Highway 2 to the small quaint town of Cashmere to visit the Aplets and Cotlets Candy Store and take a tour of their candy factory. Before today I had never tasted any of their candy that I can remember, but liked it enough to buy $28 worth of it before we left the store. This is a third generation operation which is now operated under the name Liberty Orchards. All of the packaging is done by hand at about 4800 pieces per hour and they sold more than $2,000,000 worth of candy all made at this factory and shipped all over the world. They make 40 different kinds and use all natural flavoring. The candy lasts up to 6 months in the refrigerator after opening and two years in the freezer per them. Nancy says that she's never been able to make it last that long.
It's a very pretty drive to and from Cashmere and on the way back we found a very nice Chelan County campground that we checked out for future reference. It's located right on the Wenatchee River and has large full hookup sites on grass. Very pleasant place. Prices range from $19 for a dry camping site to $28 for a full hookup site. That seems high to me, but seems to be what you have to pay here for public camping. Much more for private campgrounds.
Tomorrow we'll be going to the Bavarian town of Leavenworth and Icicle Creek area.
After returning we joined Nicole and David at David's grandmother, Gladys at her house for a fine meatloaf dinner followed by lemon pie.
