Our Cruise to the Bahamas

We decided several months ago that it was time to take a cruise. We decided to take one during the Fourth of July holiday. Our cruise started out at Port Canaveral, Florida. We would leave port in the evening and sail through the night to reach Nassau in the morning. The Monarch of the Seas was our ship. Our suite was on Deck 10. It was a nice suite with a balcony. The ship had lots of lounges, bars, dining rooms, and plenty of areas to find any kind of entertainment. We went to the karaoke club one night. One night we saw a musical show. Every meal was fantastic....and there was food around all the time. The service on the ship was impeccable. Everyone was so nice and friendly. We spent time at the pool and on the sundeck and in the hot tubs in the evenings. The mall was four decks high at the center and had many shops to spend your money.

We spend on day in Nassau. We took an excursion that involved a boat trip through the Nassau harbor that was lined with houses that only the wealthy could afford...Oprah, Tom Cruise, Richard Harris, and the owner of Starbuck;s just to name a few. We then boarded a mini submarine that took us out onto the reefs to view the reefs and the marine life. We then went back to the harbor and took a tour of the island. The island has a lot of history. The tourist portion of the island is immaculate...the residents live in very poor conditions. Our day ended with a stroll through the Straw Market. By the time we returned to the ship, we were so tired.

We set sail after a formal dinner on the ship, toward Cococay. It is a private island owned by Royal Caribbean. It was a tropical paradise. We had the best time there. We found chairs on the beach. We snorkeled out into the bay and investigated a downed Spanish ship and cannons, downed airplane and the coral reefs that surround the island. We also spent alot of time on our floating mat, just soaking in the sun out in the water. We ferried back to the boat at the end of the day.

We arrived back to Port Canaveral on the final morning. It was a wonderful trip and both of us had a great time.
