Do we move – yes! And we set off for the hinterland and Yandina and then the Blackall Range tourist drive.
We pass through some lovely villages and try the walk at Mapleton Falls – but it’s not inspiring at all! Though the town is nice as is the very busy village of Montville – full of tourists on this the Queens Birthday – damn forgot to send her a card!
Then we get a call to go and visit Ken and Elizabeth Smith in their B & B just outside of Maleny – so off we go and with excellent directions we are there in minutes.
Now folks, listen up – there are some houses that flatter to deceive – you look at them and think – wow, this’ll be good.
And there are others that just look “normal” until you walk inside – BOY – does the Smith’s house fall into the latter category!
The main lounge (there are two) has this enormous picture window looking out down and over the escarpment towards the Glasshouse Mountains and then on to the ocean – it is just fantastic!
And the rest of the house is lovely – nice wooden floors, super bedrooms (four in total) and bathrooms and two walk full length decks at each level.

So, we stay for lunch then have a wee drive around the countryside till the sun sets and then out for a really great dinner in the evening. The dinner was made extra special by Elizabeth phoning the restaurant early and organising for us to have Neil’s current favourite food – Moreton Bay Bugs – think small lobster tails.
The restaurant is called the Terrace of Maleny www.terraceofmaleny.com.au
And the whole meal was just brilliant – lovely sharing plates to start – Bugs for the Main, two bottles of white wine and some complimentary Port to round off the meal!
More from The Glasshouse Mountains next time
