Home is where we park it... travel blog

Great little overnight boondock.

Good morning

We rarely make reservations at any campground. J.C. says he does not like making commitments in this life style. We had not decided how far to drive today. We are headed for the Big Bend National Park area. The plan is to stay in Terlingua, TX which is between Big Bend State Park and Big Bend National Park so we can travel to both parks without moving. We will see. We have never been in this part of the country and really do not know what to expect. Big Bend National Park is reported to be very large and remote.

In the meantime, Alpine, TX looks like a nice little town but no obvious RV park jumped out at us as we drove through. So we kept on driving to Hwy 118 and headed south toward Terlinqua. This turned out to be a really nice drive. About 20 miles south of Alpine we happened upon a "picnic area" to spend the night. We had already driven about 270 miles. It was time to stop. A sign indicated not to stay more than 24 hours. This was a really sweet spot. It was well off the road which was not heavily travelled. We were checked out by the border patrols a couple of times. It was so peaceful. I wish we could have stayed longer. We are now in the Central time zone.
