Bob & Barb's Spring Mission Trip 2009 travel blog

This cat was wandering around and I thought it was a good...

God's colors reflected in the blooms of zalleas.

Seems Barb finds her way to friends in their kitchen!

Huntsville is the prison capital of Texas, if not for the United States! There are over 12 prisons from max security to minimum security. The good, bad, really bad and members of the life-time society are in resident in this community. One would think this would be an unsafe place to reside, no so, it is a safe, comfortable place to live.

This small community consists of several outlying hamlets of friendship and fellowship. The RV park we are staying in is new and underdevelopment; which means unimproved roads and very few campers. Our site is a concrete pad and the people who are here are more than a friendly bunch. We are camped just above a cove for the Trinity river (good fishing for crappie, I am told). The Trinity River is the largest navigable river in Texas. Paddle boats used to take goods all the way to Dallas and from where we are staying, barges were run down to the Gulf of Mexico. This is the southern answer to the Mississippi tradition of Huck Finn.

Each day we can hear the church chimes from Riverside Baptist Church just over the hill, a sound becoming unusual in our world, but a sound welcomed to the soul.

Rich in history, steeped in tradition and the open hand of help and friendship would describe this area. Sam Houston, Austin, Crockett passed this way, I wonder who will be passing this way in our generation...
