Mountains around Salento on a rainy day

After spending every day on this trip in major cities, today we got into the country to Salento, a small mountain town just an hour´s bus ride from Pereira. Full of arts and crafts stores, it was an easy place to kill a few hours. If not for the rain, we would have explored more of the incredibly beautiful back country.

For lunch, I took on the challenge of eating a regional dish called "bandeja paisa", a dish that would cause the food police to keel over on the spot: grilled beef, chorizo (very good sausage), fried egg, avocado, rice, beans, and something called chicharrón that is basically pork belly -- very, very fatty pork belly. Yum. No, I couldn´t finish the whole thing.
