While we made an early start as it is was a very cold morning, we stopped and had breakfast at a rest stop surrounded by Saguaros. Casa Grande supplied us the cheapest gas - $1.41 per gall. Great! Then it was a slow drive through Tucson because of construction on the freeway expansion.
We crossed into New Mexico in the late evening. The evening light was fantastic with the wheat colored grasses glowing gold and the purple mountains flush with pinks. The sky was full of mares tails and the setting sun a brilliant gold. Just a breathtaking sight!
Although we arrived in Deming after dark the town's welcoming glow of Christmas lights made up for the dark drive to the campground.
By now I was pretty ill with the flu so decided to pass up on experiencing the "Festival Of Lights" celebrations and just concentrate on getting well.
