|So much has happened since the last entry, it is difficult to know where to commence. We have had several good and much needed rain. Storms so far have all been electrical. One storm caused power outage for eight hours. It is almost intolerable for me to exist here without air conditioning. I can last for four to five hours then it to off the AC. Christmas was several trips to the mall-- A most fantastic Christmas Eve at Lina's sister. It is amazing to me that Lina's family being as large as it is has no 'down time' caused by bickering, belittling, or arguing. It is truly one very loving family. Christmas Eve started at 10:00 PM and lasted until 4:00 AM. When all was accounted for a prayer service, scripture and carols ensued. Then the feast!!!! Then the gifts. Gifts were placed by the tree upon entering. They where then passed out by the younger people. Next came a Secret Santa gift giving. Numerous gifts had been purchased and numbered. To start a name was drawn from a bowl. That went to gift area put that name back in the bowl and drew a different name from the bowl. That person came up drew a number and received the gift corresponding to that number. The person who bought that gift came up--hugs and kisses for each other --singing by all while the two celebrated. Next the person who gave the gift drew a number and the process repeated. When all the gifts were handed out-- Hugs, kisses and best wishes with thanks followed. Due to eating at 1:00pm, I never got to sleep until 8:00AM Christmas morning. At 10 the phone rang to tell us that the party was starting all over at noon. Upon Arriving, we feasted again. For not being hungry I managed to eat more than was necessary. I marvel at Lina's mother. She still (at 93) is able to get in the back seat of a compact car(I can evev do that). . In church she standsfor all required(I can evev do that). She stayed very alert the entire evening(I can evev do that), but the next afternoon she, Bento and I were caught staring at the insides of our eyelids. The daytime of the 26Th was food digesting day, also nap time, because at 6:00pm it was off to a fancy 25Th wedding anniversary party. We first went to Mass. After mass it was off to a very classy restaurant. I, again, was not hungry, but managed to eat enough for three. The grilled meats done Brasilian Style are difficult to resist--at least for me-- then I seldom put up a big resistance to any food. Forth coming New Years and Mama's 94 bday on the 3rd. Lina is making plans or the CARNIVAL in Recife. That's in February.
Almost forgot Lina finally found a jar of peanut butter for me. I know why it is not to common here at $7.50 a small jar.
The banana tree is six leaves old with the seventh on its way. It is really growing fast now.
WE HAVE BEEN IN BRASIL FOR THREE MONTHS!!!!
