The weather in Whitney was a roller coaster with 70's one day and 30's the next. We had wonderful hiking trails through the cedars and a path that followed Lake Whitney. We participated in a couple of potlucks, with beans one day, baked potatoes the other and variety snacks for the Christmas gift exchange the other day. I met Phyllis and was the only crafter at her classes but enjoyed learning some new things. Mario and Sharon were new friends from Missouri.

About 40 miles south of Whitney is Crawford, Texas, home of the filling station cafe'. It was a sleepy little town until President Bush bought his little 1600 acre ranch 8 miles down the road. He used to wave to the local kids as he road through the town on his way to the "Texas Whitehouse." Now he flies in on his private air strip. Things changed after that mom who lost her son in the Iraq war started protesting down here. President Bush, his staff and other political figures have stopped at this little filling station. The burgers are big and have that "bar burger" taste. The french fries were not great but President Bush usually orders the onion rings. Not too much to see from the road passing by the ranch, but it was fun just to say we drove by it.

While Rose was crafting, Joe was snatched up by the Pickle Players. It is a cross between table tennis (ping-pong) and regular tennis. It is played with a whiffle-like tennis ball and ping-pong-like paddles. I think we can handle it and will give it a try. It will be a good cardio work out for us older folks. Check it out at pickleball.com.

We spent one day by the Lake Whitney Dam and visited the four parks surrounding the dam. Because we are from Wisconsin, we are fascinated by the mistletoe growing in so many of the trees.

We shopped in Waco and made it a point to visit the Dr. Pepper Museum. Dr. Pepper's taste is suppose to remind the drinker of the smells of the corner soda fountain shop. Most sodas were originally made for some medicinal reason.
