Stromatolites - we owe them our existence!

...and again

Helen feeding Surprise

After leaving Coral Bay we stayed one night in unremarkable but nice enough Carnarvon before arriving in Denham on Sunday night. It was a tiny town where everything was closed up being Sunday, so we changed our plans and only stayed one night. The reason for being there was to visit Monkey Mia where a school of very friendly dolphins have been coming in for a feed every day for the past forty years or so. We arrived early in the morning but just missed the first of the three feeds. Fortunately we weren't made to wait long and after only about fifteen minutes the dolphins returned. We all stood knee-deep in the water while the staff told us about the dolphins and their research programme. During this the dolphins played in the sea right in front of us, coming within metres of our legs. After about half an hour the volunteers brought the fish buckets out and chose people from the crowd to feed the dolphins. I was lucky to be picked and got to feed Surprise, a 10-year old female calf. It was a brilliant experience and as I stood there another dolphin came up and kissed me on the leg - amazing!

After a quick cuppa, and with a glee filled Helen, we headed off to Kalbarri.
