Loas' Capital City feels nothing like a capital: it's not very big, has no high-rise buildings, and is really very pleasant. We're only here for a day (we're hopefully flying to Cambodia tomorrow), but it's been a lovely sight-seeing sort of a day, and the temples and Vat Xieng Khuang (Buddha Park) are beautiful. We loved the Buddha Park especially - the statues make it feel magic and a bit Nania-esque - there are loads of them, including a 50m laying buddha, and the 'pumpkin' which you can climb up, and is full of other statues. We made it to Laos' national symbol, the Stupa That Luang, in time to watch it glow in the sunset as well. Vientiane feels like a good end to relaxing Laos.
