John beside a Giant Redwood

Pounding surf at Patrick's Point State

Day 31 (Thur, Oct 9)

Got to the border around 10 am and headed west to the coast road, 101, again. Went through Redwood National Park and saw some spectacular 3,200 year old sequoias. Spent half the day winding through the maze of trees. Stopped in a couple of potential state parks but didn't like the camp spots. Got to Patrick's Point state Park and wouldn't you know it, camp host warned of very high winds again. Got a spot inland, tethered the tent to the max and hoped for the best later in the night. Took a hike down the winding steps to the beach where we found so many perfect beach rocks in red, orange, green, black and white, yellow – just amazing.

As I was starting to cook dinner, the winds grew so strong, we moved everything into the tent. Spent the night listening to 60's tunes on Ace's radio/tv he loaned us as the wind battered the tent. Thanks – this made the night so much better! I learned John really hates the wind when camping – I was fine. He's ok with rain, I'm not! Thank goodness only contending with wind tonight. Goodnight and cross your fingers we don't blow away!
