Roaming through 2008 travel blog

Back on the road again after a pleasant stay in New York (hard to believe I can say that). Gas prices are higher in New York than anywhere else we've been. Did I already say that? But we filled anyway in Watertown because we suspect it's going to be more expensive in Ontario when we get there.

The big event on this day was getting x-rayed going back into Canada. This process required us to exit the motorhome and wait for them to do some picture taking. We got waved on so I guess we're OK still.

By about 4:00 we had arrived in Smiths Falls (Doug's old home town), got setup and secured in the municipal campground adjacent to the Rideau Canal (yes, we got to watch interesting boats going up and down the canal) and started calling family. The plan was for a short stop before heading on to Ottawa so we stayed 2 days here. Visits with the folks and sister and promises to visit again on the homeward leg and we were off to Ottawa by Wednesday.

Of course no trip to Smiths Falls can be considered complete without a stop at the Hershey plant. I'm not sure what will happen after it closes at the end of the year. But we did pick up a couple of dark chocolate (the only safe chocolate) items in very small quantities, even though I swore never to each Hershey products again.

Again weather was great, though we did experience rain twice and once there was even some lightening and thunder to go with it. Apparently the nice weather we were hauling with us must have been lost at the border.
