Cathedral Fig Tree

Millaa Millaa Falls

Mission Beach

We left Cairns on Thursday morning and drove to the Atherton Tablelands. First we stopped at a lookout, these things are all starting to look the same now! We then drove to the Cathedral Fig Tree which is a huge strangler fig tree which you can almost walk right inside of. It's over 500 years old, very impressive.

We then went on through a couple of nondescript small country towns to the Curtain Fig Tree which was also very impressive, it has grown in a curtain shape because the original tree fell over so it grew around one leaning and one standing tree.

Finally we visited Millaa Millaa Falls of postcard fame. It was a waterfall a child would draw if asked what a waterfall was like, and in some ways was too perfect. The block of concrete for swimming from didn't help!

We drove on south to Mission Beach which was a lovely small town that actually had restaurants which opened past 8pm! Although it did take an hour and a half to get our food - at least we got a discount for that! We watched the sun go down from the beach which overlooks beautiful Dunk Island and had an early night.
