We opted to stay in Mumbai for two additional nights, as we had found a beautiful full service hotel in a terrific location, and our options to visit Dubai were limited,
Dubai remains a spot on the map, and not much more, for us. We had booked our flights with Emirates, as we thought we might enjoy a stopover in Dubai, and we planned to visit the desert. When we tried to find a room, the city was fully booked, because of a "shopping convention". Rooms in some places were offered at twice the rack rate, and one room was available to us at $583 for 12 hours. We ended up sleeping on the floor in the air terminal for 8 hours, taking a shower, then getting on the plane to Paris.
We were treated rather poorly by Emirates - we were transferred to an Air India flight, they cancelled Darlene's flight to Paris for a "no show" while she was on the flight they assigned us to, and they told Darlene that she would have to travel standby to Paris.
I have to give my girl credit for her humility and her ability to cope with adversity. There are many who would not have tolerated this, yet she accepted it, had a good sleep, and helped me accept our lot for the day.
