We spent one last day walking around downtown Puerto Vallarta as a final farewell to the beautiful Banderas Bay. Took pics, walked the malecon enjoying the sand sculptures and just generally taking it all in. Prior to departure we enjoyed one last German dinner in La Cruz with friends on Blue Plains Drifter; Jim and Tiffany. Really fun couple who are completing their provisioning, shopping and repairs before they make the jump to French Polynesia and ultimately New Zealand. It was nice to spend the evening listening to their tales of the last year aboard their beautiful 48' Tayana with their cat Bailey. Off they go into the wild blue yonder. We wished them well and will watch their progress via their website.
We made the trek back to Mazatlan in one straight shot, about 28 hours. We couldn't have been luckier on this particular passage. Friends on Merlot were following not far behind most of the trip which provided additional conversation. One especially pleasant surprise was to hear our friends Jim and Don (from Ventura)on Dreamweaver radio us. See, they have been holed up in Maz for weeks waiting for repairs. It was our intention to surprise them on our arrival at El Cid the next morning. Well needless to say, they surprised us! Two ships passing in the night chatting throughout the afternoon, evening and yes the middle of the night. We passed within a mile or so of each other at one point. The real highlight of the evening was unbeknownst to us......the lunar eclipse. Sometimes you just get lucky, and we feel luckier than most. My pics can't begin to show how truly beautiful the lunar eclipse was 65 miles offshore in an unbelievably calm sea. Very special indeed.
We are awaiting the mechanic to show up today to diagnose our generator problems. We leave Saturday 3/1 to return to Ventura and really look forward to seeing everyone. Hope to see some of you then!
