On road to Dominical

Feb 14. San Jose to Dominical 135 miles 2871 miles from McAllen. 3920 miles from home. Got our of San Jose early, intended to miss rush hour but all morning is rush hour there. After leaving San Jose we climbed and climbed and climbed, from the 3400 feet in San Jose to 11,400 feet at the summits, about 30 miles of challenging roads, another Dragon, several times over. And then down to sea level in another 40 miles or so. Had to pass long lines of trucks, big ones and small ones and many cars intermingled.

Challenging ride but one of the best of the trip. These mountains are beautiful all the way. Not as much rock as in our west but more variety, lush jungle much of the way, at least up to the tree line. A little cool there, actually COLD, had to put on my rain jacket for warmth. Got to Dominical little after lunch, dip in the pool and long walk to the beach. Did some body surfing and swimming.

Watched one of the surfing instructors show some girls how to surf. He was good. When he started these girls were so clumsy they could stand up good on the hard sand. In 30 minutes he had them surfing all the way in from quite far out. I found out what I had done wrong the few times I tried. Was tempted to rent a board and try it. But, after the ride today, the long walk, swim and body surfing I was tired and it was starting to rain (good excuses).

Walked back to hotel, stopped along the way for a cold cerveza. It still rained as we left the village bar but it was nice and cool walking in the rain. Will turn in a little early tonight as we are leaving early to make our last border crossing tomorrow..........the CR-Panama crossing is supposed to be the worst one and we don't want to have to ride after dark.
