Now this was not your typical pizza night but it was the absolutely best, most fun and so indicative of the greatest group of folks we have the good fortune to meet up with along our gypsy path.
Marlene and Richard are the owners of our motorhome's twin in almost every way. They are also, we just find out, members of the Escapee's RV Club
, which provides a total support system for RVers from mail forwarding to technical forums, rallies and educational seminars. Marlene had left a message earlier to come over around 5 p.m. for pizza, bring some wine and hors d'oeuvres, and our friends, Rodger and Sharon, also Escapee's Club members, so we could all get acquainted. Their traveling buddies, Lynn and Jim, would be joining us also.
After introductions all around we commenced to sharing travel experiences and destinations, motorhome technical & decorating tips, computer and internet trials & tribulations, day hikes and best of all, food! Marlene and Richard had just built their second earth oven
here at their campsite by combining mud, sand, fire brick with hard work, "TLC", and Marlene's incredible bread and pizza making skills!
The results were delicious sourdough crusts topped with tomato sauce, Kalamata olives, sauteed mushrooms and onions, and Feta cheese. Lynn fixed a farmer's market fresh mixed green salad dressed with another of Marlene's creations - her own homemade raspberry vinaigrette. But there are still two more loaves of sourdough to be baked for bread and we were all treated to warm slices slathered with butter! Delicious
The evening could not have been more perfect with the pink shades of sunset turning to a canopy of stars and constellations overhead and the fun of making new friends! Enjoy the pictures! PS: Purple and white blossoms are sprouting prolifically along Henderson Canyon as witnessed on our return from Seley Red's Citrus Farm!
