Bryony and Nick in South America travel blog

After a mind-numbing 30 hour bus journey (all the more dispiriting because we were expecting only 24), most of which was on pot-holey dirt tracks with little of interest to see except barren desertified wasteland and a few half dead palm trees, we arrived in Fortaleza.

It's a pleasant beach resort and large city with lots of restaurants, bars and the occasional pre-carnaval parade to keep us amused. The highlight was yesterday's trip to the Beach Park, a huge water based theme park where Nick ventured rides such as the Insano (the world's tallest and steepest water slide) and the Sarcophagus, whereas I played it safe on the slightly less scary options.

Both feeling the effects today, but the whole of Brazil is on the move from today for the start of Carnaval on Friday so are going south early to avoid being stranded.
