Wine Tasting in Mendoza

|Mendoza - wine tasting
Ok ok, we know what you're thinking... we are supposed to be here on a tour of S America, on a budget, but yes we splashed out today on a wine tour.
It was a totally fabulous day.
In France the Malbec grape is not well regarded as the climate does not favour it. However, here in Argentina & in particular Mendoza the grape is fantastic.
Javier picked us up from our B&B not too early as to afford a lie in & we were paired with a nice couple from Florida, John & Michelle.
First we went to a family run winery called Santo Domingo. We were shown around, which turned out to be very informative. Finally understanding how wines aquired their flavours & indeed that flavours are subjective depending on who is tasting them.
After a thorough tour we tasted a few really good wines under an olive tree, complete with sultanas & fresh walnuts. We were by now totally over run on our shedule so hurried off to the next winery.
Thankfully, this wasn't too much of a problem as the next winery was not too great. The tasting area smelt of cow hide which meant the wines tasted likewise...
Then on for a full 5 course lunch at another winery & ooodles of wines to taste... yum...hic!!!
Finally our last winery was again a small one, the Pulenta.
After the tour we were taken to the tasting room which was in the cellar with the oak wine casks. The tasting room looked like something out of a Bond movie, Dr No...
Then rather worse for wear it was back to the B&B & off out for more food.
Tomorrow will be a more relaxed day around town I suspect.... hic!!!
