The Sierra foothills in Gold Country as seen out our front window...

Storm due on Friday, Oct. 5th, so all this might change.

Spent 4 days in the Placerville, Calif. visiting a friend, that I went to highschool with, and her husband. They took us to the Apple Orchards, and shopping in downtown Placerville. Haven't seen much of each other in 40 years, but we easily talked like it was just yesterday.

On Saturday, Oct. 6th we drove to Coloma, Calif. which is about 8 miles north of Hwy.50 on Hwy. 49. Coloma lies in California's Sierra foothills in the fabled Gold Country. It is where the historic gold discovery site is. In 1848 gold was discovered. When the news of the discovery reached San Francisco, it triggered the 1849 California Gold Rush, and dramatically changed the history of our nation. Through the center of Coloma flows the South fork of the American River. We walked through Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, where there were many posted signs giving information of the discovery of gold. It was a pleasantly warm day with clear blue skies. There is alot of history in this area, along with wineries and fruit orchards. Much to see and we could have spent alot more time here. California is my native state and it never ceases to amaze me with it's diversity.

We had a nice visit to this area. Tomorrow it is on to Minden, Nevada, which is just south of Carson, Nevada. Computer access may be sketchy at our next park. We will be there a week. Will travel up to Lake Tahoe in the jeep. They received snow on Friday. The park has amenities we plan on using and we have some good books to read.
