We had a great night sleep at Bright Angel, didn't see any scorpians or hear any mountain lions phew!
We set off about 7am up and onto our next campgroung at Indian Garden (4.5 miles away). Going up was a lot harder than going down but beautiful scenery as we followed the creek.
We stopped off for a break, Steve collected water while Lucy looked for a BIG rock...!! When she came back Steve got down on one knee and popped the question right on the mountain trail, nobody around, beautiful views all around, the perfect setting. Of course Lucy said YES. It was very emotional and took Lucy completly by surprise. How fab.
We arrived at Indian Garden campground around 10.30am and celebrated our engagement with freeze dried scrambled eggs, water and a game of scrabble!
The campside only had about 12 plots. We spoke to a few of the other campers. Americans are SO friendly, everywhere we have been they have been lovely.
The next morning we were greeted by about 4 deer who wandered right over to our campsite. The assent up to the top was the hardest, it got steeper as we got nearer the top and wasn't helped by the bright fresh faced people on day hikes carrying small bags and smelling nice (by this point we hadn't showered for 4 days!).
Got to the top about 11am... what an AMAZING feeling. Lucy nearly cried with the achievement. As a reward we went to Bright Angel Lodge restaurant for breakfast and booked into Maswick lodge in the village for a shower and a good nights sleep.
