8/25-26/07 - Silver Creek Lodge, Lake Clark National Park

This morning at 7:00 a.m. we all left for the much anticipated fishing/bear watching charter, which lasted two days. Since it was a weekend, the owners (who work for a real living in Anchorage) took us on our trip. The highlight for Jim was the aluminum chambered boat (ACB), which really smoothed the semi-rough water out. It should for only $140,000!

We left Ninilchik, went out into the middle of Cook Inlet and fished for halibut. Sherry caught the first halibut, the largest, and the last on Saturday. We did not keep Sherry's big fish as it was a female weighing approximately 70-75 pounds. We all caught our limits on Saturday.

After catching our limit, we went on across to Silver Creek Lodge (1 of 7 privately owned pieces of property within Lake Clark National Park), which is a boat/fly-in only fishing lodge that accommodates fisherman and photographers. Because of this remoteness, the bears stay in the area as long as we respect their territory. As evidenced by the pictures attached, we had many sightings and thrills. Oh, the silver salmon fishing was good too!

We halibut fished on the way back on Sunday and caught our limit. Bill too caught a 70-75 pound halibut and released it as it was a female. We had such a good time, the owners are putting us on their website. If you want, Google J & J Smart Charters, Ninilchick, Alaska, you might see us!!

8/27-28/07 - Anchor Point on the Anchor River

Yesterday the boys fished for silvers on the Anchor River. Bill was the only one to catch a fish. Today the boys are fishing again while the girls are doing their domestic chores, which includes marveling at the beauty of Mount Iliamna and Mount Redoubt.

Well, the guys were "supposed" to be back at 3:00 p.m. - it's now 5:40 p.m. and they just returned. Guess we're staying another night in Ninilchik. AND, they came home with no fish!

This is the last of the Vincent/Arvidson adventures. We are signing off and will be on the road home tomorrow. Probably will take about 2 weeks. See you all soon!
