This morning we climbed the streets of Raito, having to watch for vehicles as we went, since the streets were very narrow and sidewalks really didn't exist. The streets are so narrow that cars can hardly pass each other without touching....as we were walking a car stopped on the side of the road and a woman got out and walked around to the passenger side of the car and stuck her side mirror back on....her car and another had just passed in the narrow street and her side mirror got knocked off. We asked if she needed help and she said "no Grazie...it happens all the time!!" The patron saint of Raito is the Madonna and her image is everywhere in the form of statues and icons and tile frescoes. In the afternoon we took the hotel shuttle into the village of Vietri sul Mare and this town has an over abundance of ceramic shops.....almost every other shop is a ceramic shop selling pottery and tiles, bowls and kitchen wares......you name it they have it available.
