We loaded up here!

Crossing the Siuslaw River in Florence

Sunset on Tillicum Beach

Thanks, Gail!

Beachside campsite, Nice!

Our drive north today was relatively short in distance but very slow-going! A short distance out of Coos Bay there was this great fruit stand where we loaded up on just picked white and yellow peaches, nectarines, plums, apples and tomatoes - A feast for the eyes and taste buds!

The scenery was spectacular as we passed the Oregon Dunes National recreation area, the beachside town of Florence, then the Sea Lion Caves. Next the windy, steep drive along the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area which was cloaked in fog but beautiful nonetheless.

Gail and Earl told us about one of their favorite summer destinations (next to Powell River, BC, that is!) which we are supposed to keep secret but, alas, it is now on the dratted reservation system through the National Park Service, so has been "discovered": Tillicum Beach NFS Park, near Waldport.

There were only a few vacant campsites left but we were able to find one with sun exposure and a view of the ocean. There are no hookups or dump station but our solar panels kept our batteries charged and we had plenty of water. The location is spectacular and we walked for miles on the beach and watched the humpback whales "blowing" offshore. The town of Waldport on the Alsea River is just a few miles north and had a nice grocery store and several restaurants.
