The Grottoes - Tomb of Pope John Paul II and Tomb of Pope Pius XI - Pope Pius XI signed the agreement with Italy in the early 1900's which created the Vatican as a separate city-state
Dome - designed by Michelangelo, but not completed in his lifetime and is 448 feet high with a staircase of 537 steps to the summit of The Cupola of which we climbed 321 of them to get the pictures that we took
Baldacchino - the Baroque canopy of The Papal Altar over the tomb of St. Peter designed by Bernini and commissioned by Pope Urban VIII in 1624
Monument to Pope Alexander - Bernini's last work in St. Peter's Basilica completed in 1678 showing the Chigi Pope amongst the allegorical figures of Truth, Justice, Charity and Prudence
Statue of St. Peter - by Amolfo di Cambio in the 13th Century - the foot has been worn thin from pilgrims touching it over the centuries - Nick also contributed to this
Pieta Chapel - was competed by Michelangelo in 1499 when he was only 25 years of age. It has been protected behind glass since an attack on it in 1972

The Cortile dell Pigna - named after a bronze pine cone from an ancient fountain
