Crossing the Panama Canal

Miraflores Locks

Panama Canal

Me, Zoe and Nir

Fab buses

Friday 3rd August 2008

Surprised myself by getting up early for a swim in the rooftop pool...must still be in the boat habit. Also still have sea legs which is quite strange...cleaning my teeth especially kicks off the at sea swaying habit again. We all decided that, you know being in Panama City you can't really leave without seeing the Panama Canal - well um, I personally think it was the biggest let down of a tourist attraction I have encountered this past year. We taxied to Miraflores locks which is a closed site. We paid about $10 to get in and watch a little movie which explained more about their plans for expansion that the actually history of how the US came to build it here and then it was two hours until the next ship was to come floating on through so we left. We went to buy our bus tickets for this evening (again got laughed at for asking if there was food served - got to stop doing that!) and went back to the hotel for our bags. Went off to the bus station stroke Mall at 3pm in the hope of catching another movie but instead spent the afternoon drifting between food courts and shops and ice cream places...you'd think we'd been deprived recently or something! Said bye to Nir then Zoe and I headed off to the islands of Bocas del Torres because of course we are need of a holiday.
