In the shade of the Arc de Triomphe

One last look at Le Tour Eiffel

View of the River Adour from our window in Bayonne

Today we say aure vois to Paris and it is somewhat saddening.......we really enjoyed our time here. The Metro made it very easy to get around and we felt very comfortable in this city of 2.2 million people. We sat in the shade under the Arc de Triomphe for a bit before taking one last stroll down the Champs-Elysees and then as we headed down the steps of the Metro at Alma-Marceau we turned around for one last look at the Eiffel Tower.....we caught our train at Gare Montparnasse and it took four hours and forty-five minutes on the TGV to get from Paris to Bayonne. We arrived in Bayonne just after 8:30 and found our room at the Hotel Ibis quite easily as this is not a very big city. We have a view of the River Adour from our of the two rivers that flow thru the city....the city is split into three sections by the Rivers Adour and Nive. After we got settled we went back down to the restaurant to have a bite to eat and after we were finished we met some people from England who were traveling back there from their homes in Spain. One woman told us she moved to the southern part of Spain from Kent, England about four years ago and lives in the mountains about 14 kms from a small village where they do their shopping and about 40 minutes by car from the coast. She was going back to England to see friends and relatives. The couple she was traveling with are her neighbors in Spain (they built a vacation home in the same area about two years ago). They had just spent the last seven weeks in Spain and were on their way home to just outside Bristol in southwest England and Bayonne is their rest stop before continuing on to Cherbourg to catch a ferry across the English Channel. Once again it was nice to have someone to speak English with and we chatted with the three of them for about one and half hours before turning in for the night.......
