Happy Bastille Day!!!!!

Today is Bastille Day in France, a day of much celebration.......we made our way to the Pompidou Centre and were filmed by Channel Two News, but we don't know if we made it to the TV or the cutting room floor.......while standing in line for the Centre of Modern Art to open we were treated to a military fly-by............the Centre for Modern Art is tres-weird.......they have some pretty strange artists here......oh well, I guess we don't know art when we see it.........on to the Notre Dame Cathedral......after that we made our way in the heat...boy was it hot (30 degrees)...down the Boulevard St. Germain in search of Jim Stout's favorite brasserie in Paris...Le Deux Magots...and had lunch there. We then walked along Rue St. Jacques to The Pantheon and because it was Bastille Day, there were military vehicles and a brass band in the square helping with the celebrations. On our way back to Notre Dame we stopped at Eglise Saint Severin Cathedral and found ourselves in the midst of a wedding ceremony which started shortly after we stepped inside.....we watched the groom and his mother and then the bride and her mother make their way down the aisle before departing to do some souvenir shopping in the kiosks along the bank of the River Siene, but didn't find anything that suited our fancy.....in the evening we walked along the Champs-Elysees and sat in the shade of the Arc de Triomphe people-watching until 10:30 when there was a fireworks display.....we thought that it would be up above the Arc but it turned out to be down in an area over by our hotel.....as we made our way back to our room we could see the fireworks down a side street and headed over in that direction where we were able to get a good view.... they lasted for about 45 minutes and were a real treat.....a fitting end to Bastille day!
