After a rough night at Lake Mahinapua we did a hike to Swimmer's Beach and then drove back to explore Hokitika. The town is famous for its jade. It did not disappoint. After a lunch by the Tasman Sea, we bought necklaces and rings.

We drove on to Okarito Lagoon for our next campsite. Again, on the Tasman Sea, but the sandflies were bad again. More guarded we all got a better night sleep and no problems with mosquitos. You can see the Southern Alps more clearly here and are getting excited for the glaciers tomorrow.
