What's to say. I missed my flight. I had the wrong time in my head and didn't realize it until I checked my ticket on the way to the airport at 11:34 and realized that it was 12:05 instead of 1:05! I quickly got off the bus and grabbed a cab for the 10 minute ride and belted into the terminal. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw a crowd in front of the check-in counters and the Flight info for Perth still above the Kisoks. It couldn't have been 30 seconds before I heard "Final boarding call for Air Mauritius Flight 940 to Perth." I ran to the counter and asked to be checked in, but after conferring with the supervisor, they would do it.
I pleaded with her, as it would be a week until the next flight, but it was in vain. I was doomed to spend another week on the tropical paradise the is Mautitius .... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Truthfully, that's how it felt at the time. I had been so excited to get to Australia and start a new adventure there, that this unexpected change really threw me. Also, I had been KILLING TIME that morning casually walking around the waterfront and market snapping a few more photos. I just felt stupid for not double checking the ticket earlier.
As I rode back towards Mahebourg and Le Bamboo, it hit me...there was no penalty on the ticket, and there are certainly worse places to be "stuck" than Mauritius.
Back at Le Bamboo, Privid and everyone at the hotel were great. They were upset with Air Mauritius for not letting me on the plane and offered to let me stay for half price and to help come up with activities to help fill the days. Also waiting there when I got back was Hu Xiahong, a chinese national working in the Comoro Islands to build an airport courtesy aof the Chinese Goverment. She also was "stuck" in Mauritius as she couldn't get a flight back to Comoro until Monday. She invited me and a newly arrived South African on his way home from Perth (ironic?) to join her on a tour of the southern part of the Island the next day. Well, I knew I was free....
