Cairns Lagoon (with fish sculptures)

Not much to report today - mainly spent a lazy afternoon with Jayne down at the Lagoon here in Cairns after visiting Rusty's Market. This is a great fruit and veg market which is held every weekend and is full of, you've guessed it, fruit and veg. The mangoes especially are really good right now and very cheap and you can get all sorts of other delicious tropical fruits.

As the beach isn't that great here in Cairns (the better beaches are further up the coast including the splendidly named Yorkey's Knob), there is a man-made lagoon with sandy bits, bbq areas, shaded areas etc down by the sea-front and it's a great place to hang out. The water ranges from 0.5m deep to 1.5m so you can't exactly go diving about in it but as a way to cool down it's brill.

I'm leaving Cairns early Tuesday morning so don't know if I'll have anything worth writing about until I reach Auckland so this might be my last entry for a few days. I'm preparing myself for a 10c drop in temp but I know I won't be getting much sympathy from anyone judging by reports of the weather back home! I've got so used to living in my thongs (flip flops -not my underwear!) that I feel like a real Aussie girl. Not sure how I'll adapt to wearing proper footwear again. Havaianas rock!
