This city is crazy. 2 million people, really touristy, and very expensive. You really have to haggle - rickshaws, shawls. I spent over 1 hour dealing for a pashmina shawl. He started at 1800 rupees; I at 500! We made a deal at 1000 - still way more thean I paid in China for a similar shawl - which I lost at an Indian laundry :(

The Palace of the Winds, and city palace are amazing, well worth the hassels of this city. ROMANCE OF PINK - The story goes that Jaipur needed a fresh coat of paint to welcome its distinguished guest the Prince of Wales in 1905-6. The contractor's inability to supply any other color in the required quantity compelled the choice of pink shade for its walls. A contractor's compulsion famed Jaipur to become the Pink city. Since then the PINK color is associated with hospitality in Rajput culture.

Amber 11 kilometers away from Jaipur this magnificent fortress has been the citadel of the Kachchawaha dynasty for seven centuries. Some of its past is so old that it is covered in time and cannot be traced. While some of its old structures have disappeared or in ruins but those structures built in the 16th century are in remarkable state of preservation today.
