Prayer Wheel

Forbidden City at Night

Great Wall

A Long Way Up

Old Fort

Wisps of smoke eminate from the huge incense burners and permeate the air with a sweet aroma. Worshippers light joss sticks and pray to the appropriate diety for her wish. Monks wander the through the temples, leading worshippers in their morning prayers. Theses are but a few of the images from the White Cloud Temple. A working monastery for over 1000 years, this was the image I associated most with China. Today's chinese seem more interested in the God of Money, and few young people seem to go to temple. But the crowds at this temple were a strange mix of chinese tourist/Daoist worshipper. I joined the believers, and burned joss sticks, making my prayers for a good journey, and better Mandarin skills.
