Thank goodness for an attached bathroom! The top half of the ladder...

Almost every house and business has their shrine to Buddha.

The raft houses and our guide. Simple and very basic living in...

A small portion of the view of the lake from 900 feet...

The beautiful and unique craggy limestone formations reminded many of Vietnam.

After the all night train trip south we arrived in Surat Thani to catch the transfer to our next 3 days in and around the Khao Sok Nat. park (see map for location).

First stop was a tree house, perched 32 steps up ladders. We took a nature walk that ended in a 2 hour tube ride down the river. We saw a small python, gibbon monkeys, beautiful butterflies. In general we have seen very few birds and animals on this whole trip.

Then we spent 2 full days in the national park which has a huge lake in the middle of it. It took an hour boat ride to get to our accommodations which were little huts on rafts in the lake. We explored a bat caves, did a night safari looking for nocturnal animals and insects, got woken up by howler monkeys in nearby trees, took a grueling hike up the side of the mountain (900 feet) to get an awesome view of the lake, kayaked around the area and swam in the lake. One of the highlights of the trip was the food, the cook at this place was great - the best Thai food so far.

We have just arrived in the Krabi area at Ao Nang for the last stop on the trip. Along the way we saw lots of rubber plantations, palm trees used to make palm oil, pineapple groves, and banana trees.
